First-time submitters are encouraged to seek feedback from professors or mentors who can provide guidance regarding submissions.
Symposium
A symposium is a focused session in which individual speakers present their research on a common issue. Symposia should have the dual goals of providing diversity of perspective and integrating those perspectives into a meaningful whole.
A symposium includes a chair, three to four presenters, and a discussant (optional). Symposia are scheduled in 80-minute time slots and should allow for discussion among presenters and the audience. An LCD projector, screen, microphone, and speakers will be available in each presentation room for symposia. Presenters must supply their own laptop computer, as well as all other equipment for their presentation. Slides should be prepared in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Symposia are scheduled on all days of the Convention, Thursday-Saturday.
Symposium submissions should reflect original research conducted by the presenting author and that has not been presented or published before 30 October 2025. At the end of the presentation, there will be time for Q&A with speakers.
Submitted Talk
A Submitted Talk is a 15-minute individual presentation delivered by a primary researcher in a particular area of psychological science. Submitted Talks should present empirical research only; with all data collection and analysis completed by the time the submission is finalized. Submitted Talks offer the opportunity for authors to present their research at the Convention in 10-12 minutes, accompanied by slides and followed by a 3-minute Q&A session. Submitted Talk submissions should reflect original research conducted by the presenting author and that has not been presented or published before 30 October 2025.
Submitted Talks are scheduled throughout the entire Convention on Thursday-Saturday. Since so few Submitted Talks can be accepted for presentation, we encourage you to also submit your research as a poster if you are interested. Submitted Talks will not automatically be considered for presentation as a poster.
Note: Please submit your presentation as either a Submitted Talk or a Flash Talk. The same presentation should not be submitted as both a Flash Talk and Submitted Talk.
Flash Talk
A Flash Talk is a 5-minute individual presentation delivered by a primary researcher in a particular area of psychological science. Flash Talks offer the opportunity for authors to present their research at the Convention in a 5-minute talk, accompanied by slides. These submissions can discuss empirical results, methods and tools, or applications of psychological science.
Flash talks are submitted related to the 6 Integrative Science Symposia (ISS) topics listed below. Each ISS will have a Flash Talk session where authors will present their research and have time for Q&A and discussion. The Program Committee will accept 5 outstanding Flash Talks for each ISS.
Integrative Science Symposium (ISS) Topics
- Recent Discoveries Related to Mental Health and Treatment
- Brain/Cognitive Development and Environment
- The Reciprocal Dynamics of Individual and Collective Cognition
- Language, Culture, and Cognition
- Safeguarding Democracy: Polarization, Populism, and Post-Truth
- Self-Consciousness, Embodiment, and Social Interactions In Humans and Artificial Agents
Note: Please submit your presentation as either a Flash Talk or a Submitted Talk. The same presentation should not be submitted as both a Flash Talk and Submitted Talk. Flash Talks will not automatically be considered for presentation as a poster.
Poster
Poster presenters will be assigned to a 1-hour poster session where they will discuss their research with interested attendees at the APS Annual Convention. Poster sessions are scheduled on all days of the Convention, Thursday-Saturday.
There are 3 types of poster submissions:
- Standard Poster: Standard Poster submissions must only report data collection and analysis completed by the time the submission is finalized. Submissions that do not report collected data and analyses, or that do not have enough collected data or analysis to make an empirical claim, will not be accepted. Non-empirical research should not be submitted as a poster. Standard Posters are eligible to apply for poster awards. Posters should reflect original research that has not been presented or published before 30 October 2025.
- Please learn more about poster awards here.
- Research Proposal Poster: Research Proposal Posters should represent plans for a future empirical study. Data collection should not be complete. This is a chance to receive early feedback on your research study plan. Your submission should describe an empirical research study plan in detail including hypotheses, experimental design, plan for participant recruitment, procedure, plan for statistical analysis, and expected results. Research Proposal Posters are not eligible for poster awards.
- Teaching Poster: Teaching posters should pertain to the teaching of psychological science. This includes teaching techniques, innovations, evaluation, and philosophy. Posters should focus on methods for teaching psychology, such as particularly effective or innovative courses or course organizations, strategies (including demonstrations) for promoting active learning, ways of integrating course material, helpful use of technology, and the like. These posters are presented as part of the pre-conference Teaching Institute, which takes place on Thursday. The Teaching Institute requires an additional registration fee.
