Nominate an Expert for a National Academies Workshop on Environmental Exposure and Mental Health

Nominations accepted until October 21

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Standing Committee on the Use of Emerging Science for Environmental Health Decisions seeks experts to plan a workshop exploring the influence of environmental exposures (e.g., pollutants) on mental and behavioral health outcomes.

The workshop will focus on efforts to better integrate mental and behavioral health into multidisciplinary considerations of environmental health; new tools and technologies to assess mental and behavioral health outcomes; and ways in which mental and behavioral health impacts could be incorporated into environmental risk assessment and public health decisions.

Are you interested in serving on the workshop planning committee? Do you have colleagues who might be a great fit? We welcome nominations, including yourself, for anyone with interest and expertise in environmental health and/or mental and behavioral health, particularly in the following areas of research or public health practice:

  • Advances in tools and technologies to study brain circuits and mental health
  • Environmental influences on the brain, well-being, and mental health (e.g., neuroscience, psychiatry, environmental sociology)
  • Risk assessment and risk management of environmental pollutant exposures
  • Social factors that influence knowledge development and decision-making (e.g., STS studies; socio-ecological models; decision science; political science)
  • Environmental and mental health disparities
  • Environmental and public health policy and law

In forming each committee, we seek to include diverse volunteers with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, and other factors. We also welcome nominations for experts at different stages of their careers, including early career professionals, and from all professional sectors such as academia, local and state government, industry, and non- or not-for-profit organizations.

The workshop is planned for February 2021. Please submit your nominations by 11:59 p.m. ET on October 21.
