Abstract
Stress and uncertainty are theorized to promote the acquisition and storage of resources, sometimes described as "panic buying" or hoarding. COVID-19 presented a unique opportunity to experimentally demonstrate this phenomenon. Compared to experimental data collected before the pandemic, people acquired more items and preferred more functional goods during COVID-19.
