Metaphors and Messages: Explicit and Implicit Metaphorical Communications to Students

Metaphors are one way people communicate ideas about educational experiences and teacher-student relationships. Building on our research of four teaching metaphors, we explore whether metaphorical language used to describe the teacher role evokes different expectations for teachers’ characteristics. Our research presents a novel exploration of metaphorical lay theories in education.
