The Power of Words: A Content Analysis of Disability Language in Scholarly Articles Related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Abstract
We hypothesized that language used to describe autism in scholarly articles would be related to article type, publication year, first author’s gender, and number of authors. Findings suggest that when there are more authors, autism is referred to abstractly, focusing on the disorder, rather than individuals diagnosed with the disorder.
