Abstract

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is understood to arise from past events: people’s symptoms relate to characteristics of their memory for a trauma. But we found people’s PTSD-like symptoms were predicted by changes in characteristics of how they imagined a hypothetical future trauma. PTSD may not be unique to past events.
