The Influence of Deadlines on Task Scheduling

We find that people strongly prefer to schedule tasks on-the-hour (i.e., 9:00 versus 9:15). This tendency might be maladaptive as it contributes to slack time. The tendency to schedule on-the-hour was reduced for hypothetical (Study 1) and for real (Study 2) task scheduling when participants also considered the task deadlines.
