Abstract

To study how self-distancing affects expressive writing, 110 participants were randomly assigned to two experimental groups. Participants who wrote about traumatic events using 3rd person pronoun used more positive words than participants who wrote in 1st person, suggesting that different perspectives lead to different linguistic correlates and emotional word choice.
