Abstract
Research has shown that both novelty and familiarity can motivate information-seeking behaviour. The question of what drives this behaviour towards familiarity remains unanswered. We demonstrate the key role that an unsuccessful recall attempt plays in motivating this tendency. This result furthers the existing research exploring the factors which spark curiosity.
