I’Ll be Watching You: AI Surveillance Technology and Privacy Invasion

We examine the effects of surveillance by AI (artificial intelligence) on perceptions of privacy invasion. Across four studies, we show that individuals perceive greater privacy invasion when AI monitors them as opposed to human managers. We also explore downstream consequences, mechanisms, and ways to attenuate the effect.
