Abstract
The psychological burden of lower SES is larger in developed nations than developing ones. Across three large-scale cross-cultural datasets, national religiosity can explain this effect: Developing nations are more religious and therefore uphold religious norms that ease the burden of lower SES and cast a bad light on higher SES.
