Abstract

In a prospective study of 229 Mexican-origin adolescents, autonomic correlates of suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors (STB) were analyzed in response to a social-exclusion task. Youth who prospectively reported STB showed significantly higher sympathetic and lower parasympathetic activation (reciprocal sympathetic activation) in response to being socially excluded, compared to non-STB youth.
