Perceiving Threats Predicts Making Threats: Coding the Dangerous Speech of Extremists Online May Identify Potential Threats

We examined whether theory-grounded elements of dangerous speech could be linked to making specific threats of violence in the online speech of Boogaloo extremists. We found that the anger and disgust and the perception that an outgroup threatened the ingroup’s life and values corresponded to making violent threats.
