Abstract

The current study demonstrated that younger adults who endorsed stronger beliefs that one’s environment causes depression also endorsed stronger beliefs that individuals have personal control over their depression, whereas older adults maintained strong personal control beliefs regardless of environmental causal beliefs. Implications for stigma and treatment are discussed.
