Abstract
Findings of this study reveal that interpersonal touch experiences contribute to social anxiety by playing a role in the development of cognitions such as fear of negative and self-critical rumination. Gender differences emerged both with regard to the kind of touch experiences and the mediator cognitions associated with social anxiety.
