A Novel Contributing Factor to Base Rate Neglect in Mammography: Diagnosis Dependent Selective Overweighting of False Positive Rates

Neglecting the base rate of a disease or the miss rate of a disease detection system (e.g., a machine learning system) can cause significant diagnostic errors. The purpose of the present study was to quantitatively characterize the various contributing factors to these neglects in the specific context of mammography.
