Abstract

Previous research has explored the cognitive consequences of searching for information online. We replicated the internet fixation effect, showing that searching for information online increases the likelihood of searching for other information online. We failed to find conclusive evidence, however, that online searching impacts metacognitive judgments of internal knowledge.
