Abstract

We show how cues to social class can guide political judgments. Across 4 experiments (N=1743) employing a candidate-evaluation paradigm, we show that candidates from lower- and working-class backgrounds were perceived more liberal and warmer than high-class candidates. Lower-class candidates were evaluated more positively and evaluations were moderated by participants’ ideology.
