Abstract

Ideological groups communicate in social media to relay information and build support. Animal activists’ online postings describing various crimes were coded for crime type, severity, and moral disengagement rhetoric. Moral justification and euphemistic labeling were the most commonly used mechanisms and differed in level across crime types.
