Abstract

The visual word form area (VWFA) of the brain is activated by orthographic input. In right-handers, the VWFA is co-localized with language and lateralized to the left hemisphere. The present study examines the emergence and specificity of the VWFA from childhood, when reading skills are acquired, through adolescence to adulthood.
