Abstract
This study investigated the effects of psychopathic traits and empathy on emotion detection in instrumental music. Cognitive empathy positively predicted overall emotion detection and music portraying sadness, with psychopathic traits negatively predicting the detection of sadness. Findings suggest that individual differences impact musical emotion recognition, necessitating further research.
