Episodic Memory through a Social and Emotional Lens: Effects on Item and Associative Memory

Abstract
Social and emotionally negative information is recognized more easily, and negative social information is particularly salient. Negative emotional valence also interferes with memory for associated contextual information; however, social cues attenuate this effect, such that it is less difficult to place distressing memories in context when they contain social cues.
