Abstract
In a bid for public support, alleged perpetrators of sexual assault often describe themselves as the “real” victim. We found that such self-victim framing works as intended, increasing support for—and reducing Dark Triad trait attributions to—the victim-framed individual. Our findings highlight pragmatic reasoning as a key mechanism driving these effects.
