Abstract

We examined the impact of a social norms manipulation on 234 college men’s judgments of the justifiability of unwanted sexual advances. Participants showed marked normative misperception of peers’ judgments, as well as three distinguishable cognitive processes underlying these misperceptions. Effects were more pronounced for men who endorsed more rape-supportive attitudes.
