Abstract

To investigate how single-sex (SS) schooling affects gender cognitions and interpersonal relationships, we tested 667 final-year highschool students in Hong Kong. SS students reported higher self-gender salience and lower efficacy in other-gender relationships than coeducational school students. Our findings provide important empirical evidence to help resolve the SS education debate.
