The Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System

Abstract
We conducted two experiments to clarify psychological and physiological mechanisms of the autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR). We show that auditory and visual inputs additively enhance the ASMR. Finger photoplethysmography results suggest that the ASMR is closely linked to the parasympathetic nervous system.
