Telling People about the Left Digit Effect in Number Line Estimation Does Not Reduce the Effect

Abstract
In number line estimation, numerals with different leftmost digits (e.g., 298/302) are placed farther apart than warranted, a phenomenon called the left digit effect (LDE). We tested whether directly instructing people about the LDE reduces the effect. Although informed participants (N=134) performed more slowly than controls, the LDE was unchanged.
Other
