Abstract
High emotional intelligence (EI), an emotion regulation disposition, is associated with use of cognitive reappraisal, and may buffer against negative mood. The effects of EI on cognitive reappraisal and the moderating role of psychopathology were tested. High EI led to greater use of cognitive reappraisal among individuals with affective disorders.
