Blacks and Whites Perceive Black Art Differently: A Painting-Centered Approach to Examining Implicit Bias
- Barbara-Shae Jackson

Abstract
Eighty-nine participants (black = 33; white =57) judged paintings by black and white artists. Analysis of data found white people were less comfortable with, and responded less positively to, black art compared to blacks. Findings indicate that race & bias activation influence the perception of paintings that represent black culture.
