Cognitive Resources and the Modality Effect: Input Modality Pairings Influence Dual-Task Costs

Abstract
To test the modality effect, we investigated recall performance and cognitive load during simultaneous tasks in different vs. same modalities. Dual-tasks in the same modality led to a greater decrease in performance, but not cognitive load, when compared to dual-tasks in different modalities.
