Abstract

We investigated whether task choice vs. task assignment moderates the effect of incidental affective influences on effort mobilization. Task choice immunized goal pursuit against incidental affective stimulation, whereas participants integrated the affective stimulation into demand-related judgements when the task was assigned. Effort-related cardiovascular response-patterns (PEP, HR, SBP) supported our hypothesis
