The Relation of Maternal and Child Defense Mechanisms with Parent-Child Attachment Security

We rated defense mechanisms during a videotaped interaction task between mother-child dyads. Children’s levels of defense mechanisms were correlated with a) mother defense mechanisms and b) child attachment security. The latter did not explain the relation between maternal and child defense mechanisms.
