Abstract
People willingly share money with computers. This begs the question: does cooperation in economic games reflect true prosocial preferences or is it merely confusion? Across two studies we show that participants’ cooperation with computers can be predicted by “social” variables, thus, challenging the distinction between prosocial preference and confusion.
