Abstract

Four groups factorially studied and recalled the same 40 stimuli presented as pictures or words, recalling them as pictures or words across three free−recall trials. Stimulus−recall format differentially influenced performance. All groups were hypermnesic: memory grew across trials. We interpret results with our alternative retrieval pathways (ARP) hypothesis.
