Strength Mediates Sex Differences in Anxiety

Abstract

Two studies were conducted to investigate whether differences in physical strength affect anxiety. Results indicated that sex differences in the Neuroticism facet anxiety were mediated by variation in physical strength and self-perceived formidability. Study 1 found a mediation effect for Anxiety. Study 2 predicted and replicated this mediation effect.
