Stanley Cups, Status and Salaries: The Mathew Effect on Career Opportunities

Drawing on the theory of cumulative advantage, we’ve previously found that status increases career opportunities. This work investigates how these differences occur. Using contracts of National Hockey League players, we find that an increase in status doesn't result in immediate spike in opportunities. Instead, differences in opportunities accrue over time.
