Abstract
Does an actor’s race influence observers’ judgments of intent? Participants (N=396) rated actors who committed a homicide with or without a malevolent goal (“Distal Intent”) and behavioral control (“Proximal Intent”). Observers judged the Black actor more harshly only when distal intent was present and proximal intent was absent.
