Abstract
We investigated the label-meaning connections for early object words and their developmental change. The results suggest that the initial meanings of object words (e.g., “shoe”) were intertwined with object-specific actions (e.g., “putting on”), whereas they subsequently differentiated into specific object categories and became independent of such actions.
