Abstract

Among two probability-based nationally representative U.S. samples, conservatives reported stronger responses the 2014 Ebola outbreak (N = 3,447) while liberals reported stronger responses to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic (N = 6,514). Political orientation did not predict responses to a familiar, non-politicized pathogen (the seasonal flu) in either sample.
