Math and Computer Programming Attitudes As Predictors of Engagement in a K-12 STEM Online Learning Environment

Abstract

This study assesses how initial math and computer programming attitudes, underrepresented minority (URM) status, and gender predict longitudinal engagement among middle schoolers using a STEM online learning platform. Regression analysis finds that initially, higher computer programming interest predicts greater engagement while URM status negatively predicts engagement. Effects disappear over time.
