Abstract
The aim of this meta-analysis is to estimate urban-rural variations in the prevalence of major depression. Overall, urban settings have a significantly higher prevalence of major depression than rural areas. When stratified by country developmental level and age, these results persisted only for developed countries and the adult subpopulation.
