Does Parental Occupation Influence Job Aspirations in High School Females?

162 subjects at an all-girls academy completed questionnaires. Father’s occupation influenced female adolescents' job choice significantly more than did their mother’s. Even in an environment dedicated to preparing women for STEM careers on an equal footing with men, stereotypes may guide adolescents toward professions deemed socially-appropriate to the belonging gender.
