Abstract

We assessed whether students are affected by treatment plausibility when interpreting research results. Student belief in an implausible treatment was similar to a plausible treatment, but decreased when reasons for implausibility were highlighted. Suggestions for teaching about treatment plausibility, which can improve understanding of research results, are discussed.
