Exploring the Effects of Influential Others on Motivational Factors Among Secondary and College Students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Programs
Student perceptions of those closest to them (e.g., teachers, parents, and friends) exert influence on student persistence and performance in STEM programs. The symposium discusses results of quantitative and mixed-method studies of secondary and undergraduate college students to explore how student perceptions may affect motivation for continued STEM pursuits.
