Abstract

Participants brainstormed personal goals, and decomposed one goal into tasks and subtasks. Afterwards, participants showed increased goal clarity (p=.003), and a trend for increased goal commitment (p=0.056). Our results lend support to the claims that breaking down distal goals motivates performance, and lends insight into the mechanisms underpinning this effect.
