Abstract

Using a sample of engineering graduate students (EGS), we tested the relationship between identity, task (micro-level) difficulty, and overall (macro-level) difficulty evaluating degree progress. Results indicated that micro-level difficulty mediates the effect of identity salience on macro-level difficulty, providing support for Identity-Based Motivation and suggesting new avenues of intervention.
