Abstract
Two experiments compared forecasted and actual experiences when alone, talking to a stranger, and using a smartphone. Participants forecasted and experienced the most positive affect when talking to a stranger, followed by smartphone, and then sitting alone. This helps better understand why people often choose screen time over face time.
