The Relative Task Value Affects Cognitive Fatigue and Task Performance after Prolonged Cognitive Effort

Abstract

We investigated the relation between the task value and cognitive fatigue. Participants who performed a highly valued task declared lower fatigue and had better performance than those who performed a task with a lower value. The results provide new insights into the current debate regarding self-control failures and effort.
