Abstract

Across six experiments (n=720), we demonstrate that a common measure of visual statistical learning, based on reaction times, does not measure statistical learning. Instead, it measures a “readiness-to-respond” which is largely independent of prior experience with visual statistics. We consider the practical and conceptual implications for studies of statistical learning.
