Phone Activity Improves Accuracy of Commercial Wearable Sleep Measurements

Abstract
Commercial wearables use motion to detect sleep, but cannot detect wakeful stationary phone usage. We found ~ 65% of participants used their phones after detected bedtime and/or before detected wake time. Correcting wearable data with phone usage data improves model accuracy for self-reported sleep.
